Great insights, Corey. These days, Brand "Coaches" make things worse by training us to "put our best foot forward", your brand should be polished and shiney. Social media trains our kids that everyone's life is perfect and fun and successful. Everyone's chasing followers, clicks, and "likes". They want to be an "influencer" focusing on image instead of being a leader and focusing on authenticity, empathy, and caring for those in your charge.
Really great insights, Corey! Leading authentically is often said, but rarely done. In similar fashion, many companies say that their people are their most valuable asset - yet few companies treat them that way.
Authentic leadership - being vulnerable and letting your "real you" lead with compassion and empathy is often what we did in the military, yet somehow feel compelled to abandon (at least to some degree) in corporate settings.
As a young Army Infantry Officer, I remember living and leading each day by a simple motto: "Mission First, Men Always." I still follow that ethos to this day. Focus on the mission, focus on what needs to be done, but ALWAYS take care of your people along the way.
Awesome words. At the end of my career the light bulb came on to just tell young leaders what they didn’t want to hear. I was at a place where everyone was patting each other on the back and no one was being honest. I started being comfortable telling young leaders how bad I failed as a leader and man on my journey. I learned that a mask can only be worn for so long before it becomes uncomfortable and old.
Inspired to update my LinkedIn profile after reading this insightful, thought provoking article. Most likely a low risk move that would help communicate my authentic self and reach people of similar interests and experience. Tha ks Corey, appreciate your voice and courage.

Love it! "I've stopped performing leadership and tried to serve with what I have, the greater the impact I've had."

It’s hard to stay above the constant branding and positivity that is advertising.
to surf is to serve, less is more, don’t toot your own horn only others.
This is applicable in so many areas of my life. Thanks for sharing.
